Taiwan
Work Permits & Visas
  • Foreign nationals must obtain a work permit issued by the Ministry of Labour before employment. Employers are responsible for sponsorship.
  • Common visa types include:
    • Work Permit and Alien Resident Certificate (ARC)
    • Employment Gold Card (for highly skilled professionals)
  • Permits are typically issued for 1–3 years and are renewable.
Payroll
  • Employers must register with the National Taxation Bureau and relevant social insurance authorities.
  • Payroll is typically processed monthly. Employers must:
    • Withhold income tax
    • Contribute to labour insurance and national health insurance
    • Submit payroll filings
  • Social Contributions (approximate):
    • Labour Insurance: shared between employer and employee
    • National Health Insurance: shared contributions
    • Pension (Labour Pension Scheme): Employer contributes at least 6%
Employment Contracts
  • Contracts may be fixed-term or indefinite. Written contracts are standard practice.
  • Probation Period: Typically 3 months (not strictly regulated but widely applied).
  • Working Hours:
    • Standard workweek: 40 hours
    • Overtime compensated at premium rates (ranging from 133% to 200%)

  • Severance: Applicable depending on the pension scheme (old vs new system) and years of service.
